Pasadena Ski & Nature Park – Junior Skier Development BunnyRabbit & JackRabbit Programs - 2011
Adult Learn to Ski If you are new to cross country skiing there are volunteers are available to teach the fundamentals of classic and skate skiing. You will learn basic skiing technique including falling, getting up, herringbone and snowplow, classic and skating techniques. Skiers will also get tips on ski equipment, understanding how to choose and apply the correct wax and when not to wax. Classes are scheduled on Saturday afternoons from 12:00 – 1:00 pm at a cost per class is $ 10. Individuals are asked to call or sign up at the chalet by Friday morning of each week that you plan to attend to confirm your space, and leave a message on the type of lesson interested in (beginner, classic or skate). There will also be a four class beginner session to be held during the day on Wednesday mornings at 9:00 am. The cost is $ 30 and that will include rentals if you need them. Please call the chalet at 686-5515 if you are interested.
BunnyRabbits: - Ages 4 – 5 - Basic introduction to x-country skiing, games & play with focus on fun
JackRabbits: - Group A: Ages 6 - 7 - Group B: Ages 8 – 10 - Intro to skills & techniques with focus on fun - Evaluation of skill level and progression - Intro to non-competitive racing
General Information: - Start date of program is January 22, 2010 (pending enough snow). Programs will run for eight (8) sessions, one session per week. - Sessions will run on Saturday mornings as follows: BunnyRabbits: 10:00 – 10:45 am JackRabbits: Group A (6-7 yrs): 11 - 12 pm Group B (8-10 yrs): 11 - 12 pm
- A snack/hot chocolate will be provided following each lesson (in chalet). NOTE: Please notify instructor(s) if allergies are a concern. - All sessions are weather permitting. Parents are encouraged to assist with the children's activities (e.g. instruction, supervision / trail guides, making hot chocolate/ serving snacks, cleanup after ski sessions, ski rentals). Please indicate if and how you are willing to help out.
The fee structure for program is as follows:
** The equipment rental fee is a one-time fee payable at registration and includes the rental of a full ski package (skis, boots, poles) for all lessons / sessions. Rentals can be picked up 15 minutes prior to lesson and are to be returned immediately following lesson. Rentals required for use at any sessions scheduled for alternate locations will be coordinated for pick-up / return.
Weather cancellations: All sessions take place on Saturday mornings and are weather permitting. If the weather is unsuitable on a Saturday, the session will be made-up at the end of the program. Please note in the even of a cancellation, make-up days will continue on March 19/10 and March 26/10. The parent/guardian listed on the registration form will be notified one hour prior to session in case of cancellation. Weather cancellations are at the discretion of the instructor in accordance with the daily forecasts and conditions (cold temps, wind, etc.). Please ensure that you provide an email at registration! Cancellation notices will be sent out via email and the chalet attendant will be notified (you can call 686-5515 to confirm if lessons are on).
Special Events Schedule A schedule for any session “themes” will be forwarded to all once registration numbers have been confirmed. Some possible ideas right now include a family ski & fire, snowshoe day, race day and JackRabbit Mini-Olympics. Dress for the Weather Please ensure your child is warmly dressed. A snowsuit is appropriate for most ages. Mittens are better than gloves (especially for the younger children). Feet in particular are problem areas: please wear a heavy sock and avoid cotton (synthetic or wool blends are best). Your child may want to bring a drink to have during the lesson. If so, please use a reusable container, clearly marked with name (ie. water bottle) that can be left outside. Snacks will be provided at the end of each lesson. NOTE: Please notify instructor if allergies / other medical conditions are a concern. Equipment For the BunnyRabbit group (new skiers), an intro type ski is suitable. These skis are slightly wider and easier to balance on than traditional x-country skis. They are available at Canadian Tire ($30 for skis/poles set). With these types of skis, typical winter boots are worn using strap bindings. For the JackRabbit group, a classic style ski is appropriate. Wax-less skis are the most versatile for young skiers, allowing them to ski in all snow conditions and in both styles (classic and skate). Boot sizing is as important, if not more important, than skis. Well-fit boots keep feet warmer and more comfortable. Please ask for more info on ski / boot types and sizing. Other Notes:
- Program booklets and participant frisbees will be distributed as soon as they arrive - Badges, award stickers, etc. will be passed out at the end of the season.

I am aware that Pasadena Ski & Nature Park (hereinafter referred to as “the Ski Area”) and its Ski and Snowshoe Programs have in addition to the usual dangers and risks inherent to the sport of snow skiing, certain additional dangers and risks including, but not limited to, the danger and risk of collision with natural and man-made objects and with other skiers and spectators and I freely accept and fully assume all such dangers and risks and the possibility of personal injury, death, property damage or loss resulting therefrom.
In consideration of the Ski Area permitting my participation in Pasadena Ski & Nature Park’s Ski and Snowshoe Programs (hereinafter referred to as “the Program”), I hereby agree as follows:
TO WAIVE ANY AND ALL CLAIMS that I may have against the Ski Area, the Program, the Program sponsors, and their directors, officers, employees, agents, and representatives, and any volunteers in any way associated with the Program, (all of whom are hereinafter collectively known as “the Releasees”).
TO RELEASE THE RELEASEES FROM ANY AND ALL LIABILITY for any loss, damage, injury or expenses that I may suffer or that my next of kin may suffer as a result of my participation in the Program due to any cause whatsoever, INCLUDING, BUT NOT LIMITED TO, NEGLIGENCE, BREACH OF CONTRACT, BREACH OF STATUTORY DUTY OF CARE OR BREACH OF ANY OTHER DUTY OF CARE.
TO HOLD HARMLESS AND INDEMNIFY THE RELEASEES from any and all liability from property damage or personal injury to any third party, resulting from my participation in the Program or use of the Ski Area and its facilities; AND THAT, this Release of Liability shall be effective and binding upon my heirs, next of kin, executors, administrators and assigns in the event of my death.
I am the full age of eighteen (18) years and I have read and understood this Release of Liability prior to signing it, and I am aware that by signing this Release of Liability I am waiving certain legal rights which I, or my heirs, next of kin, executors, administrators and assigns may have against the releasees.
